When is a tree inspection advisable?

A tree inspection in Piedmont can be useful when you have concerns about the health, stability or safety of a tree. Not every problem is immediately visible. Dead wood, cracks, storm damage or changes in the crown can sometimes only be noticed when the tree is assessed more closely.

Trees located near a house, terrace, driveway, parking area or public road deserve particular attention.

When should a tree be inspected?

A tree inspection can be advisable if you notice signs such as:

  • dead or broken branches;
  • cracks in the trunk or major limbs;
  • a tree that appears to be leaning more than before;
  • damage around the trunk or root collar;
  • branches growing against buildings, roofs or other trees;
  • storm damage or recently broken wood;
  • unusual changes in the crown;
  • an old or large tree in a location where failure could cause damage.

Even when there is no obvious damage, an inspection can still be useful if the tree stands in a sensitive location.

What is checked during a tree inspection?

During a visual tree inspection, I assess the general condition of the tree, including the crown, trunk, branch unions and root collar.
I look for visible defects, dead wood, damage, cracks, structural issues and potential risks to the surrounding area.
Based on the inspection, it can be determined whether maintenance is needed, whether pruning may be appropriate or whether further investigation should be considered.

Tree inspection after a storm

After strong winds or storms, damage is not always immediately visible. A branch may be partially cracked or hanging loose without falling straight away.

For this reason, trees around homes, terraces, driveways and roads should be checked carefully after severe weather. For large or mature trees, a professional assessment can help identify potential risks at an early stage.

When is pruning or tree removal necessary?

A tree inspection does not automatically mean that a tree needs to be pruned or removed.
Sometimes no work is required at all. In other cases, targeted pruning may be enough, for example to remove dead wood or reduce a damaged branch.
If a tree is severely weakened, unstable or unsuitable for its location, removal may sometimes be the safest option. Each situation should therefore be assessed individually.

Tree inspection in Piedmont

Tree & Garden Service Piemonte provides professional tree inspections for private homes, holiday homes, estates and rental properties.
I work primarily in and around Nizza Monferrato, Canelli, Asti, Acqui Terme, Alba and Alessandria. For larger projects, other locations in Piedmont may also be possible.
If you are unsure about the condition or safety of a tree, an on-site assessment can help provide clarity on the situation and possible next steps.
